FAQs
Q: How do I know which Stressless recliner size will fit me best?
A: Most Stressless recliners are available in small, medium and large sizes, so you can choose the one that best suits your body shape and height. While height is a useful starting point, it's not the only factor. Your torso length, build and personal seating preferences all play an important role in finding the perfect fit.
As a general guide:
Small – ideal for shorter or slimmer users.
Medium – the most popular size and suitable for many adults.
Large – designed for taller or broader users who benefit from extra seat width and back height.
Every Stressless recliner model has slightly different dimensions and cushioning, so even if you're comfortable in one style, you may prefer a different size in another. The best way to find the perfect fit for you is to visit a Stressless showroom and try out the different models and sizes.
Q: Does every Stressless chair in this range come with a matching footstool, or is it sold separately?
A: Most Stressless recliners have a matching footstool, designed to work with the chair to provide the signature Stressless comfort experience. Commonly, footstools are sold separately, though recliner-and-stool bundle promotions are often available for certain styles.
Some Stressless chairs, such as Consul and Mayfair, can have the LegComfort option, which is a built-in, foldable footrest under the seat rather than a standalone footstool.
Q: Can I try a Stressless recliner in person before buying online?
A: You can try a Stressless recliner in person at our Stressless studio in our showroom on the High Street in Sidmouth. We have the full collection on display, and our experienced team can help you find the perfect fit.
Q: What's the difference between the leather grades, and which is easiest to look after?
Stressless offers four leather grades – Batick, Paloma, Velaro, and Noblesse.
Batick is the most practical and low-maintenance leather in the range. It's heavily protected with a pigmented finish and embossed grain, making it resistant to stains, fading and everyday wear. Most natural marks have been removed, giving it a consistent appearance.
Paloma has a softer feel and a more natural appearance than Batick, with some scars, wrinkles and grain variation visible. It has a light protective coating, so it's still practical but not quite as hard-wearing as Batick.
Velaro is a premium leather. It's thick, silky-soft, and has a natural appearance with only a light protective coating. Some natural variations in grain and colour are part of its character. Velaro is a robust leather, yet still soft and sumptuous to the touch.
Noblesse is Stressless's most luxurious leather. It's a full-grain semi-aniline leather with only a very thin protective coating, so it retains its incredibly soft feel and natural beauty. Because of this, it's also the most delicate and requires more care to protect it from sunlight, spills and wear.
A Stressless leather care kit is available to buy separately and contains a leather cleaner and a protection solution to care for your Stressless recliner or sofa.
Q: What's the difference between the Stressless Classic, Signature and Cross bases?
A: The Classic base is the original Stressless design - a curved beechwood frame with a 360° swivel and a stable, smooth recline, but no rocking motion. The Signature base has the same wood finish but adds a matte black or chrome metal accent, along with Stressless' BalanceAdapt™ system, which lets the chair rock gently and swivel, and a slightly deeper recline. The Cross base has the same swivel-and-rock function as Signature, but with a more angular, architectural wood-and-metal frame rather than a rounded one, so choosing between Signature and Cross comes down to style rather than comfort.
